Q&A

We apologise if you have not been able to find information you may have been looking for. Below are a list of the most common questions we get asked along with our answers.

If your question is not listed here, please email us at info [at] fitnessvibe.co.uk and we will be delighted to respond and may even add your question to this page for the benefit of others who may need clarification in a particular area.

What is Zumba®?

Zumba® classes combines dance and fitness moves. Inspired by Latin dance and music, Zumba® uses a variety of styles in its routines, including Cumbia, Merengue, Salsa, Reggaeton, Mambo, Rumba, Flamenco, and Hip Hop. Music selections include both fast and slow rhythms to help tone and sculpt the body. You could burn between 350 to 900 calories PER class, BUT it all depends on how you exert yourself.

Who attends Zumba® classes?

People of all fitness abilities, ages, sizes and nationalities take our classes. It is open to men and women and we also provide specialist classes for children, the over active adult or to those with disabilities.

What if I can't keep up?

Know your own body! Most people know their limits. If not, see your doctor before attempting any type of exercise. Work out at your own pace until you are comfortable with the routine/exercise. From Day #1 to the middle of the session or by Day #8, you will see improvement… you will see that you do not stop as much… and your stamina would have improved greatly! Just hang in there, because you already took your first step toward a healthier, better lifestyle – you started out with a fun, rewarding class. Be proud of yourself!”

What do I wear?

Wear comfortable workout clothes, including a top that ideally fits your upper body snugly so that no fabric falls in your face during stretches or moves that involve bending forward at the waist. Leggings or capri-length pants may keep your leg muscles warmer than athletic shorts. When you attend a class it is important to keep the muscles warm after a session so bring with you a towel to dry yourself off, a spare t-shirt to change in to and a sweatshirt or jacket to avoid your body ceasing up.

What footwear should I wear?

Wear cross-trainers or dance shoes – anything that will give you support but not too much grip. Just keep in mind, if your shoes “look like a tyre” on the bottom (e.g., running shoes), they will have the same effect as one will make swivelling of the foot difficult and can have a negative impact on the knee. To reduce the risk of injury to the knees we would highly recommend trainers that have shock absorbers to the heal and a disc-shaped tread pattern under the ball of the foot making pivoting much easier. Some high top/ankle style of boot/trainer can offer even greater support to those prone to weak or sprained ankles.

How much do the classes cost?

That depends on location. Classes on average cost £6.00 but classes in the leisure centres will charge more – please refer to our schedule for this information. You may however get your classes as part of your gym membership or you can purchase a Platinum Membership card, which will provide you with saving on your classes, apparel and related-events.

Where can I purchase a Membership Card?

Members will benefit from the Fitness Vibe Platinum Membership scheme with various discounts including 17% off sessions*, 10% off Fitness Vibe apparel and selected events. You can order/purchase one from any member of the team at a cost of £49.99 for 10 sessions

Where can I buy toning sticks from?

The green toning sticks are lighter in weight (1lb) and you should always start with these. The purple sticks weight 2.5lb and should only be used to intensify your workout once you have nailed the basics or during static parts of the session.

You can get them from us directly – visit our shop. Prices: £22.00 (1lb), £25.00 (2.5lbs).

I have an injury/medical condition – can I still participate?

Please let us know if you have an injury or condition that may cause some discomfort! The steps can be modified for your safety. If you have not exercised in a long time, please see your doctor to obtain clearance to start classes. Zumba® can be intense, so go at your own pace and listen to your body! Take a break when you need one! You don’t have to keep up with everyone else! Don’t overdo it, we want you to have fun and come back!

What should I bring?

Water as you will need it! Always keep yourself hydrated. We do have bottled water for sale at some of our venues at £1.00 if you wish to purchase it.

Bringing a towel really helps with removing access sweat, especially off of the face.

Bring a friend to class. It may be just what you need to give you that extra boost to stay motivated and fulfil your health and fitness goal.

How do I book my child on to Camp?

£20.00 per day per child payable in advance by cash or cheque made payable to Fitness Vibe

Do I have to book before I come to a class?
